musume, Japanese for "daughter" or “young woman,” does not refer to a particular girl, nor to an idealized image of womanhood.

It is a state of being.

In the autumn fields of Awaji Island, asagimadara butterflies drift among the blooming fujibakama, one of the Seven Flowers of Autumn. Known for its migrations across seas and great distances, the butterfly is drawn to the flower’s nectar. Each autumn, the two find one another. This landscape became the origin of musume.

If the Seven Herbs of Spring represents Japan’s culture of nourishment, eating well and praying for health, the Seven Flowers of Autumn is a culture of contemplation. They invite us to simply observe, to notice how plants sway in the wind, how colors fade with the season, and how beauty reveals itself in passing moments.

The scent of fujibakama opens with a delicate sweetness, faintly powdery and refined. Layered are the green freshness of autumn grasses. Drifting between the floral sweetness and the fresh-cut-green, the soft sway of autumn plants unfolds.

淡路島の秋の野に、ふわりと舞うアサギマダラ。
時に、海を越えて旅をするその蝶は、藤袴の蜜を求めて飛来する。
植物と、虫。土地と、季節。
目には見えないつながりが織りなすその風景は、「musume」の原風景になった。

春の七草が、無病息災を願い“食す”文化だとすれば、秋の七草は、"鑑賞"の文化として親しまれてきた。
役割や効能ではなく、風に揺れる姿そのものに心を寄せる。
そんなまなざしが、この香りには流れている。

藤袴の香りは、ほのかな甘さとわずかなパウダリー感を含み、日本的な上品さを帯びている。そこへ、秋草の青みと、空気に溶けるような軽やかさが重なる。

甘さと、青さ。
そのあいだに、やわらかく奥行きのある、秋草の気配が漂う。
